THE GAME
BEGIN TRANSMISSION is a 1 - 2 players letter-writing roleplaying game about planet exploration. One player takes on the role of an autonomous Rover exploring distant, unknown planets. The other plays the Command Centre, issuing mission instructions and documenting the rover’s findings.
It explores themes of distance, isolation, and communication and it's ideal for players who enjoy narrative-driven experiences, journaling RPGs, and creative writing.
The game was written with sending physical letters in mind to simulate the duration a transmission will take to reach their destination when communicating with a rover on a distant planet. However, nothing stops you from using a digital method of correspondence if you want a quicker play, or if sending physical mail is not convenient.
The Round:
- The Command Centre draws cards and consults the tasks tables to create the mission instructions and send them to the Rover.
- The Rover receives the instructions and writes a report based on them, using their imagination and/or the examples from the task tables at the end of the book and sends it back to the Command Centre.
- The Command Centre receives and logs the report and sends new instructions back to the Rover.
- Continue the exchange using the steps 1-3.
